Children love to learn and play, and providing the time, space, materials, and support for them to learn through play is one of the best ways to teach them about the world. I’ve used these methods to raise my own children as well as children I’ve cared for by being very active in their play. I’ve also noticed how speaking kindly to them, and using only positive, nurturing words provided them with the solid foundation they needed to learn quickly.
At Little Gem’s, we use a High Scope Curriculum, which means that while we strive to adhere to both structure and routine, we also follow the interests and ability levels of each individual child. Our personalized educational goals are focused on the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical abilities of each child, and we strategically design and place activities and materials within their reach that will promote growth and further development.
Each child is special and unique. I believe in providing them with an abundance of love and support. By giving them active attention, and by nurturing them deeply, I believe each child can grow up to be an active, super adult.
I grew up in a small mountain village in the country of Laos, where my days as a child consisted of getting up early to build a fire, take care of our family’s animals and fetch water for our animals and my family. We were a family of farmers. We raised our own rice and corn and caught our own fish in the river. We were self-sustaining agriculturalists, and although we didn’t make any money we lived simply, off the land.
When I was 14 years old, I moved to Thailand and worked as a cook at night and cared for children each day. I was able to support my family through this work, and it was the beginning of my passion for childcare.
In 2007, at the age of 20, I met Ken who was visiting from the USA. We soon moved to Richmond, California and were married. I started going to school and working in a factory. Once we’d started our own family, I was also able to help my husband’s family by providing daycare for other children in our family.
Now, I am extending our family by caring for the children of others. It’s the next step in my journey, and I am so excited about pursuing my passions for childcare in this new way.
I attended both Sierra as well as Berkeley Adult School. I am continuing my education by taking Early Childhood Development classes at Contra Costa Community College, which I will complete in 2021.
Caring for children has always been a passion of mine. I’ve cared for children in Thailand, here in the U.S., and finally, my own children.
My home is a bright, clean and spacious area for children to learn and explore. Most of the children particularly love the outdoor area, which we visit daily. With multiple rooms, and spaces thoughtfully set aside for children to actively grow and develop it’s a great place to learn.
We eat family style, and my upbringing in Laos and Thailand heavily influence our meals and snacks. We love to eat healthy foods that are rich in both taste and nutrition. In addition to meals, we provide two snacks each day consisting of fruits, vegetables, and/or dairy. We will also offer the children additional healthy snacking alternatives. If your child is an infant you’re required to provide food each day.
|I will gladly accept parent involvement in both volunteering and feedback. I invite you to speak with me personally so that we can find ways for you to connect with your child both within the classroom setting and away from it. I hope that you will feel comfortable letting me know how I can assist your family in making your child’s stay with us happy, active, and fulfilling.|
